I'm co-presenting an in-person Knowledge session with Detron on adequately securing Active Directory

Reading Time: 2 minutes

On October 4, 2022, Raymond and I are presenting at the Detron Headquarters in Veenendaal on adequately securing Active Directory from 6:30PM to 9PM.

I presented on one of their Knowledge session events in 2017, and earlier this year, Xander Bikbergen contacted me to present on a topic close to his experience: the Active Directory Tiered Administration Model. As Raymond also has experience with this topic, we proposed to present this session together.

About this event

Raymond and I will deliver a 150-minute session on Adequately securing Active Directory.

The event starts at 5:30PM with dinner. Then, at 6:30PM, Raymond and I kick off the first part of the session, where we show the attendees the low-hanging fruit when it comes to securing Active Directory. Of course, we need to talk about the Active Directory tiered administration model, but also about eliminating NTLMv1, LDAP non-S, SSL 3.0 and other outdated encryption algorithms, protocols and services.

After a short break to allow people to catch their breaths again, we dive into the second part of the session, where Raymond and I explain how to secure Active Directory when you’re not just looking at on-premises Active Directory, but live in today’s world with AD FS, Azure AD Connect and Microsoft’s Entra and Defender services.

Attackers target Active Directory. Some ransomware gangs even stop attacking the environment when they hit non-domain-joined devices. With default settings, Active Directory makes it easy to move laterally toward Domain Admin credentials. There are multiple new vulnerabilities each month that can be abused to do so in well-managed environments.

After the presentation, there will be drinks.
