Test it yourselves: Exchange Server 2016 Preview is now available!

Today the Microsoft Exchange Product Team released the public Preview of Exchange Server 2016! See the announcement on the EHLO blog. Now everybody can install, investigate and test the latest iteration of Exchange Server, which is part of the Wave 16 of all Office applications (such as Office 2016, Skype for Business, SharePoint 2016 etc.). Some of these features are already present in Office 365, others will be added in time. As this is a Preview release, don’t install this in a

Using the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer Tool

Recently Microsoft released an updated version of the Microsoft Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer rebranding it as the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer as it now also can test Lync connections, next to Exchange and Office365. Another addition is the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer Tool, a local variant of the online tool for Exchange connections. This is a very helpful tool for internal testing and despite being in beta, it already successfully helped me correctly identifying a certificate issue before I used it

Preparing for the Exchange 2013 (beta) exams

In the upcoming episode 11 of The UC Architects podcast, we discussed about preparing for the Exchange 2013 exams. As I blogged earlier, the new Microsoft Certified Solutions Master: Messaging certification requires the exams 70-341 and 70-342, next to the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Windows Server 2012 certification. Currently the Exchange 2013 exams are in beta, the Release-to-Manufacturer (RTM) version will be published January 15 2013. Being an beta exam means several things: Booking is as normal, though the code

Windows Phone 8 in pictures – Samsung ATIV S hands-on

During an Windows 8 event (Dutch) organized by the company I work for (OGD ICT Diensten, Dutch) there was also a small exhibit hall. I was responsible for Office 365 and Exchange and even demonstrated the Exchange 2013 Preview, especially the new OWA on an iPad. That’s awesome BTW . But Samsung also had a stand (next to others) and next to the very interesting ATIV tablets, they also had the Windows Phone 8 (WP8) ATIV S! I could even

So, what about ActiveSync in Exchange 2013?

Over the years Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) has grown into the standard in mobile mail, calendar and contact synchronization. Even groupware products other than Exchange have implemented this protocol to ensure synchronization with iOS, Android and Windows Mobile/Phone devices. It has been adopted to almost any mobile device, even BlackBerry has succumbed with (yet to be released) BBOS10. And with Windows 8 and Outlook 2013, also a desktop OS (or whatever) will be able to use the protocol. Check out my

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Installing Prerequisites [Video]

In my previous post, I’ve demonstrated how to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 Preview Release. Now this video will demonstrate which and how to install all the requirements to install Exchange 2013 Preview on a Windows 2012 Preview server. Why not Windows Server 2008R2? Well, it’s mostly the same, but we’ll probably install Exchange 2013 more on Windows Server 2012 than on 2008R2 IMHO. Below the video is embedded, you’ll probably need a higher resolution to see everything clearly.

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Preparing Active Directory [Video]

Last Monday Exchange Server 2013 Preview Release (PR) was finally but rather silently released, together with all of the Wave 15 products (Office, Lync Server, SharePoint server). You can see the keynote here. Trying something new: I’ve made a video demonstrating which steps are necessary to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 PR and how you can check whether this is completed successfully. I’ve added a download link for a WMV below (for use during a course or presentation for instance).

Yes, there is ActiveSync in Windows 8!

*** updated: Also read the followup blog post: More about Windows 8 CP and ActiveSync I think it was already present in the Developer Preview, but it is definitely present in the Consumer Preview. Chris Brownie has blogged about it and has some screenshots. Go ahead and read his blog! As can be seen in his screenshots, ActiveSync policies are applied to the device (or computer) and it is listed in the Exchange Control Panel. But how should we treat

Installing Exchange 2010 Beta: Quick Preparation

Just a few quick tips for those who want a quick result when preparing and installing for Exchange 2010 Beta. The past few days I’ve installed this beta too many times not to be wondering how to speed things up. So I wound up with two batch files. No unattend file (yet?) though. I already have recently updated Windows Server 2008 images. But for Exchange 2010 beta you need some more updates and packs. When prepping a server for a
