Exchange 2013 and all other Office products RTM bits are now available on TechNet!

Looks like Microsoft itself can’t wait to release the RTM bits of Exchange 2013 and it’s family members, because they are currently available on TechNet. See proof below: Like the RTM announcement this availability is quite a lot sooner than expected, or actually announced. Microsoft itself aimed at half november for TechNet subscribers. Should we think more of this? Nah, let’s just enjoy it. If anything, Microsoft had al lot extra time built-in just in case one of the product

Exchange Server 2013 certification path visualized

A few days back my pal Cor Reinhard (like me a MEC 2012 veteran ) posted information on how to achieve the new Microsoft Certified Solutions Master: Messaging certification and the issues that currently surround it. As I was planning my own certification path, I decided to visualize this as it can be confusing and not always very clear which requirements are needed for a certain certification title. I’ve decided to make this available for everyone interested in it. At

Exchange 2013 is RTM, so… what now? (or Migrating to Exchange 2013)

*20121026 updated 2010 Schema prepped scenario* Last week Microsoft announced the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) status of it’s Office products including Exchange 2013. That’s exciting news! Now can we upgrade already? Well, no not yet. Firstly, the RTM bits will be available mid-november for MSDN/TechNet but also for Volume licensing customers. General availability is announced for first quarter of 2013. Secondly, availability of the bits is not everything. Depending on your situation you possibly have to wait for updates etc.,

What is the ‘Outlook App for Exchange’ in Exchange 2013 Preview?

After digging into Exchange 2013 Preview ActiveSync in my previous post, I was making some Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) policies and just playing around. Yeah, I have a bit of a soft spot for ActiveSync Suddenly I noticed something very interesting in the Exchange Admin Center. I’ve made a screenshot: Did you notice it? Maybe a close up? Outlook App for Exchange. Not Outlook Web App. Outlook App for Exchange. It took a while to sink in. During and after writing

So, what about ActiveSync in Exchange 2013?

Over the years Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) has grown into the standard in mobile mail, calendar and contact synchronization. Even groupware products other than Exchange have implemented this protocol to ensure synchronization with iOS, Android and Windows Mobile/Phone devices. It has been adopted to almost any mobile device, even BlackBerry has succumbed with (yet to be released) BBOS10. And with Windows 8 and Outlook 2013, also a desktop OS (or whatever) will be able to use the protocol. Check out my

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Installing Exchange [Video]

In my previous posts, I’ve demonstrated how to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 Preview Release and how to install all the prerequisites on Windows 2012 for both the Exchange 2013 Client Access and Mailbox role. This video in turn will demonstrate how to install Exchange 2013 Preview on a Windows 2012 Preview server. Via the Graphical User Interface setup and the Command Line Interface. Below the video is embedded, you'll probably need a higher resolution to see everything clearly.

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Installing Prerequisites [Video]

In my previous post, I’ve demonstrated how to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 Preview Release. Now this video will demonstrate which and how to install all the requirements to install Exchange 2013 Preview on a Windows 2012 Preview server. Why not Windows Server 2008R2? Well, it’s mostly the same, but we’ll probably install Exchange 2013 more on Windows Server 2012 than on 2008R2 IMHO. Below the video is embedded, you'll probably need a higher resolution to see everything clearly.

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Preparing Active Directory [Video]

Last Monday Exchange Server 2013 Preview Release (PR) was finally but rather silently released, together with all of the Wave 15 products (Office, Lync Server, SharePoint server). You can see the keynote here. Trying something new: I’ve made a video demonstrating which steps are necessary to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 PR and how you can check whether this is completed successfully. I've added a download link for a WMV below (for use during a course or presentation for instance).

Exchange 15 OWA Offline and Extensible?

A few hours ago Mary-Jo Foley posted a blog in which she states (among other things not mentioned here) that the next version of Exchange (codename Exchange 15) could get an offline OWA. A requirement would be IE10. Considering Windows 8 tablets, this could be quite the competitor for Microsoft's own ActiveSync (EAS, also incorporated in all versions of Windows 8). It would depend on the functionality while in offline mode; it’s only reasonable to assume functionality is limited when

Upcoming Microsoft Events I’m attending: TechEd Europe and MEC

Faithfull Twitter followers probably already know, but my employer made it possible for me to attend TechEd Europe 2012 (June 26-29) in Amsterdam (and the Microsoft Exchange Conference 2012 (MEC, September 24-26) in Orlando! For me this TechEd is a bit more special than others I’ve attended (Barcelona, Berlin) because I was born in Amsterdam and I currently live within an hour commuting to the conferencing site RAI. Talk about convenient. Unfortunately the discount period is over, so you’ll have
