Last year, at TechDays Netherlands 2015, I participated in Compu’Train’s ‘Battle for TechEd’. As you might recall, I won the battle and earned the title ‘Best Dutch IT Pro’.
This year, Ises Computrain organized a similar competition:
The LLPA Battle for Ignite.
About the LLPA Battle for Ignite
Ises Computrain is part of the Leading Learning Partners Association (LLPA), consisting of 24 well-known training centers and learning organizations throughout Europe and South Africa. Instead of hosting another Battle alone, Ises Computrain partnered with the LLPA to up the stakes.
The LLPA Battle for Ignite is a competition, where technicians compete for the title Best IT Pro and The Best Developer. LLPA members execute the competition at their local events and find the winners for that country. In the finals, these winners compete against the other country LLPA winners in the finals.

The second time around…
Last Thursday, I was invited at Ises Computrain at BCN Utrecht for the Netherlands finals. As one of the top ten participants of the competition during TechDays Netherlands 2015, I had the opportunity to defend my ‘Best Dutch IT Pro’ title from last year against nine other TechDays contestants and the contestant who beat everyone else online (the ‘wildcard’).
Ron Sijm, who was the best developer last year, was also there, as were two of my former colleagues. Of course, they read the blogpost I wrote last year and so were well aware of my strategy…
That’s not a secret. Ises Computrain supplied Surface devices for this competition. They challenged us to answer the most correct answers in as little time. The question set consisted of 70 questions covering Microsoft, Cisco, Linux and VMware-based exam questions. Our maximum time for these questions was set at 20 minutes.
After 10m20 I was done with the questions and I took about 20 seconds to review my answers for incomplete answers. I then ended the exam and walked out of the room as the first contestant to do so.
After about half an hour, we were invited back in the classroom for the results. Patrick Kersten, Program Manager at Ises Computrain, announced the winners:
| Ises Computrain Dutch Best Developer | Ron Sijm |
| Ises Computrain Dutch Best IT Pro | Sander Berkouwer |
Dutch Best IT Pro, for the 2nd time!
The prizes I received were the flowers above, the congratulations from all other contestants, the title ‘Ises Computrain Best IT Pro’ and a 2500 euro voucher for a Microsoft training at Ises CompuTrain.
Awesome!
