Branding your Hybrid Identity Solution, Part 3: Azure Active Directory

This entry is part 3 of 6 in the series Branding your Hybrid Identity Solution

BrandingAs mentioned in the Introduction post to this series, we’ll try to achieve a unified and consistent experience for end-users when using our Hybrid Identity implementation.

For many end-users the Azure Active Directory Logon Pages are their first entry into their Azure Active Directory-integrated applications, services and systems, when they’re working from home, on the road or otherwise off-premises (outside of the ‘intranet’).

So let’s start with branding and a disclaimer for these pages! Glimlach

Requirements

To apply branding to your Azure Active Directory Logon Pages, you will need one or more of the below subscriptions, assigned to at least one user object in the Azure Active Directory tenant:

  • Azure Active Directory Basic
  • Azure Active Directory Premium P1
  • Azure Active Directory Premium P2
  • Office 365 E3
  • Office 365 E5
  • Secure Productive Enterprise E3
  • Secure Productive Enterprise E5

Applying default customizations

Branding the Azure Active Directory Logon Pages is straightforward. You can achieve it through the Azure Portal. To apply branding to the Active Directory Logon Pages, perform these steps:

  1. Start your favorite web browser and navigate to https://portal.azure.com
  2. Log onto the Azure Portal with credentials belonging to an user object inside your Azure Active Directory tenant with at least Global Admin privileges.
  3. Perform multi-factor authentication, when prompted.
  4. In the left navigation pane, click on Azure Active Directory.
  5. The original navigation pane will largely collapse and replaced by the Azure Active Directory navigation pane.
  6. In the Azure Active Directory navigation pane click on Company Branding.

  1. Follow the Configure company branding now link in the main pane, .
  2. For the Sign-in page image use your illustration image.
  3. For the Sign-in page text specify the text that serves as the disclaimer. Make sure it’s no longer than 256 characters of text.
  4. For the Square logo image use the bright square logo you created.
  5. Use the same file or a dark square logo for the Square logo image, dark theme.
  6. When done, double-check your branding sessions and, then, click Save in the top left corner of the pane.

After you’ve clicked Save, the branding will be applied and you’ll have configured default branding for all languages in use within your organization:

Applying per-language customizations

Microsoft offers the ability to use settings per language. Let’s see how we’d use customized settings for Dutch:

  1. Close the pane you’ve just used to apply the default branding.
  2. Now, click on the + Add language button in the top op the Company branding pane. A new pane appears.
  3. In the drop-down list choose the language. In this case, we’ll choose Nederlands (Nederland).
  4. Then, we’ll apply the same branding as before, but a localized disclaimer text for the Sign-in page text.
  5. When done, double-check your branding sessions and, then, click Save in the top left corner of the pane.

The settings for the language you’ve just added, will be part of a list underneath the Per-language customization header in the Company branding pane.

Concluding

Use the Azure Portal to apply branding and customizations to your organization’s Azure Active Directory Logon Pages.
