So, what about ActiveSync in Exchange 2013?

Reading Time: 5 minutes Over the years Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) has grown into the standard in mobile mail, calendar and contact synchronization. Even groupware products other than Exchange have implemented this protocol to ensure synchronization with iOS, Android and Windows Mobile/Phone devices. It has been adopted to almost any mobile device, even BlackBerry has succumbed with (yet to be released) BBOS10. And with Windows 8 and Outlook 2013, also a desktop OS (or whatever) will be able to use the protocol. Check out my

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Installing Exchange [Video]

Reading Time: < 1 minute In my previous posts, I’ve demonstrated how to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 Preview Release and how to install all the prerequisites on Windows 2012 for both the Exchange 2013 Client Access and Mailbox role. This video in turn will demonstrate how to install Exchange 2013 Preview on a Windows 2012 Preview server. Via the Graphical User Interface setup and the Command Line Interface. Below the video is embedded, you'll probably need a higher resolution to see everything clearly.

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Installing Prerequisites [Video]

Reading Time: < 1 minute In my previous post, I’ve demonstrated how to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 Preview Release. Now this video will demonstrate which and how to install all the requirements to install Exchange 2013 Preview on a Windows 2012 Preview server. Why not Windows Server 2008R2? Well, it’s mostly the same, but we’ll probably install Exchange 2013 more on Windows Server 2012 than on 2008R2 IMHO. Below the video is embedded, you'll probably need a higher resolution to see everything clearly.

Exchange Server 2013 Preview – Preparing Active Directory [Video]

Reading Time: < 1 minute Last Monday Exchange Server 2013 Preview Release (PR) was finally but rather silently released, together with all of the Wave 15 products (Office, Lync Server, SharePoint server). You can see the keynote here. Trying something new: I’ve made a video demonstrating which steps are necessary to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 PR and how you can check whether this is completed successfully. I've added a download link for a WMV below (for use during a course or presentation for instance).

TechEd Europe 2012: Thursday's (day 3) quick thoughts

Reading Time: 2 minutes Same quick summary as previous days, I was dead beat so wrote it this morning enroute to day 4. SWAG: Did a bit better with USB hub, 2 USB 4GB Sticks, and some other stuff. Oh yeah; I won a Nokia Lumia 900!!! At the Nokia booth after handing over the tile from the conference bag and clicking randomly on a screen. You can't beat that! Well, a Win8 tablet could have 😉 Weather: very nice and I had no

TechEd Europe 2012: Wednesday (day 2) quick thoughts

Reading Time: < 1 minute Same as yesterday's post, some quick thoughts:  Skipped Keynote. I figured that I watch it via Channel9 and get some extra rest. Good decission.  Wi-Fi: Had no real issues, sometimes darkspots or loss of connectivity during walking. In any cas not as disasterous as yesterday. Weeeh! Again some great meet-and-greets and discussions. Looked like even more than yesterday! If that trend continues… 🙂 Airconditioning: the day started colder, but it seemed they turned up the airco. I felt a draft

TechEd Europe 2012: Tuesday's (day1) quick thoughts

Reading Time: < 1 minute Just quick post to sum up day 1 (for me, don't mind the typing errors. I'm dead tired and typing via my iPad): Keynote: nothing earthshattering as most was the same as TechEd North America. WiFi: almost nonexistent until the end (almost a full conference day!). I know MSFT isn't directly responsible, but come on!  Azure: That stuff is cooool! Definitely something to keep an eye on, IMHO Exchange: no real new stuf, as expected. Although a quick mention of

The UC Architects Podcast is live!

Reading Time: < 1 minute Since Steve Goodman’s tweet regarding a good Exchange podcast and the first recording, took about two weeks. In that time, 13 IT Pros, MCMs and MVPs have gathered (virtually) and realized a website, LinkedIn page, Facebook page, Twitter page, requested an intro and outro theme (Paul van Geldrop: Thanks!), recorded a podcast via Lync 2010, edited and now published it via the site, iTunes and Zune! This podcast was a lot of fun to do and I’m hoping to do

Exchange SSL Offloading and the upcoming update blocking certificates with RSA key length less than 1024bit

Reading Time: 2 minutes Microsoft announced yesterday new approach regarding the validation of certificates coming in august this year. Certificates with a key length less than 1024bit will be blocked: Adding to our defense-in-depth measures, in August, we will release a change to how Windows manages certificates that have RSA keys of less than 1024 bits in length. Once this key length update is released, we will treat all of these certificates as invalid, even if they are currently valid and signed by a
